Our top-of-the-range Self Ballasted Par-38 Narrow Flood Lamp is the Mega-Ray mercury vapor bulb 70 watts, which has been shown in tests to produce comparable amounts of UVB to natural sunlight! In most cases, the bulb provides a basking spot along with sufficient heat (additional lighting and heating should be considered if necessary) at the specified distances. It promotes the synthesis of vitamin D3 and prevents metabolic bone disease due to very high levels of UVA, encouraging emotional well-being and movement. This original Mega-Ray design, the world’s first bulb to use a transparent magnesium oxide inner coating, provides the visible light, UVB, UVA, and heat needed for UVB-dependent basking reptiles. For 10 years, it has been demonstrated to have the longest lasting UVB output of any other available mercury vapor bulb.
